Xprize, a US based leading organisation in large scale innovation competitions, seeks for the brightest minds around the world to hand in proposals for CO2 re-use. The prize will incentivize the development of new and emerging CO2 conversion technologies, accelerating them from laboratory testing to demonstration under real world conditions. The prize – running 4 and a half years – will help identify the most promising pathways for CO2 conversion and prove they can be deployed at power plants and other industrial facilities. Ultimately, the impact of the prize will go far beyond the critical demonstration of innovative technologies, by inspiring transformation, enabling new markets, and empowering people to be a part of the solution to one of our world’s grandest challenges – climate change.
“The XPRIZE Foundation and EnCO2re share the goal of accelerating CO2 re-use commercialization. This nascent technology has the potential for environmental and economic benefits that could be an important part of the global transformation towards sustainability. We welcome the Foundation’s commitment and look forward to the results of the competition,” says Ted Grozier, Programme Manager of EnCO2re, Climate-KIC’s flagship innovation programme on enabling CO2 re-use.
